OSHTEMO TOWNSHIP, MI — Oshtemo Township residents are speaking out against a potential battery storage facility in the township.
But because of state law, there’s not much the township can do to prevent a developer from building a battery storage facility, township officials said.
Roughly 50 residents attended a Tuesday, Oct. 28 township board meeting where battery storage systems were discussed.
“We haven’t finished working through all of the options that we have but none of them land in our favor,” township Supervisor Cheri Bell said.
The backlash was sparked after NewEdge Renewable Power gave a presentation to the township planning commission in mid-August on battery storage systems.
