Claire Mill never gave up hope in Pine-Richland.
The junior forward didn’t sweat when the Rams were stuck at a stalemate with North Allegheny in the girls Class 3A WPIAL field hockey championship on Tuesday night. Mill, and her teammates, were in total control of the game.
The halftime message was clear for the Rams: trust each other.
“We just had to trust the strength of our team,” Mill said. “We wanted to go in with full force and send the ball up. We had the ball in the first and second quarter on their side of the 50, so we needed to stay consistent and get the goals.”
Mill got the goals, indeed. The junior scored both goals — one in the third quarter and another in the fourth quarter — to give Pine-Richland its seventh-consecutive Class 3A championship title with the 2-0 victory o
