GLENWOOD — The Minnewaska volleyball team has treaded into uncharted territory.
Before this season, the Lakers had not beaten Sauk Centre since Minnewaska High School formed in 1991.
The Lakers ended up sweeping the regular-season series with the Mainstreeters.
“We beat them at home and that was the first time that Minnewaska has ever beaten Sauk in 41 matches, so that was pretty crazy for us,” said Lakers head coach Mitch McGuire. “Then when we went there, we swept them at their house and that was really awesome, too.”
And on Tuesday, Minnewaska capped off a 3-0 record over Sauk Centre. The top-seeded Lakers advanced to the Section 6AA championship with a 25-21, 25-22, 25-20 semifinal victory over No. 4 Sauk Centre.
“We weren’t expecting a sweep today,” McGuire admitted.
