PHOENIX — Native Jamaicans living in Arizona are struggling to keep in contact with family at home in the wake of Hurricane Melissa.
Renard White, the chef and owner of One Love Cafe, opened his authentic Jamaican food restaurant nearly two years ago near 19th Avenue and Indian School Road in Phoenix with hopes of spreading his culture halfway across the world.
“In my opinion, I think we have the best Jamaican food in Arizona, the most authentic Jamaican food in Arizona," White said.
But right now, home is all he can think about.
“This storm is so catastrophic, I can’t even put in words what it means to not be there," White said.
