OMAHA, Neb. —

The Omaha City Council is likely to approve a plan to bring around $50 million worth of improvements to Northwest Omaha's Tranquility Park soon.

The plan will add 12 turf soccer fields at the park northwest of 120th and Maple Streets. It hopes to attract regional tournaments to Omaha.

It's a scaled-back version of the original plan announced in 2023, which would have brought 16 turf soccer fields and baseball-softball diamonds.

But city officials say they'd like to see that be a part of the park in the future. The work set to be approved by the council soon will include groundwork to make those additions easier in the future.

The work will also expand Fort Street to four lanes and a median west of 120th Street to 126th. That will require replacing the bridge.
