HARTFORD, Conn. — The Cultural Dance Troupe of the West Indies, a Hartford organization that has been around since 1982, is on the brink of eviction.
Executive Director Tamika Keith claimed that the organization’s funding decreased and ultimately dried up because she voiced concerns about suspected fraudulent activity.
Keith said the dance troupe has been an integral part of her life, noting that she has been a participant in the program since she was seven years old.
While the program has relied on public and private donations, sponsorships and grants for years, she said that hasn't been the case lately.
“I funded this organization in 2023 [with] $25,000 of my own money, and that is what led me to seek out the senator,” Keith said.
