One Dead, Thousands Evacuated as Cyclone Montha Tears Through Andhra and Odisha Cyclone Montha roared into Andhra Pradesh’s coast near Kakinada on Tuesday night, unleashing winds of over 100 kmph and relentless rain. The severe storm battered towns for nearly four hours, toppling trees, twisting power poles, and flooding coastal areas. One woman died in Makanapalem village after a tree crashed onto her house. More than 10,000 residents from 65 villages were evacuated before landfall. In Odisha, Montha’s outer bands triggered heavy rainfall, road blockages, and minor landslides in Ganjam and Gajapati districts. The sea turned ferocious at Uppada in Kakinada district, flooding homes and tearing up roads as waves breached embankments.
