A Norman mother is pleading for help as her son and his new bride ride out Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica.

Married Saturday, the couple, along with several members of their wedding party, remain on the island after their flights were canceled due to the storm.

“We really need to rally the American spirit because we are going to need boats and helicopters to get our people out, of course I want my son home first,” said Melissa Bohannan, whose son and daughter-in-law are stuck in Jamaica.

Bohannan and her husband narrowly returned home to Norman on Sunday from their son's wedding in Jamaica, just ahead of Hurricane Melissa.

“This is a cat 5 hurricane, this is the third strongest hurricane recorded in history—it’s massive,” said Bohannan.
