The Victorian Coalition has hit back at Treasurer Jaclyn Symes after the senior Labor minister claimed the Liberal and National parties' tax commitments would result in “savage cuts” to frontline services.

After taking the unusual step of costing the Opposition’s tax policies, the Victorian Treasurer claimed the commitments to scrap several Allan Government tax increases and freeze government fees would result in a budget black hole of almost $11 billion.

“It’s time the Liberals come clean and say how they will pay for their $10.8 billion black hole”, Ms Symes said.

The Labor Treasurer said this would require acts of “economic vandalism” from the Coalition, including “savage cuts” to police, schools, hospitals and ambulance services.
