Billed the “HBCU Battle of Legends,” the football game between Delaware State and Norfolk State is aimed to stir community passions because of the schools’ first-year coaches.

Hornets coach DeSean Jackson and Norfolk State’s Michael Vick each starred with the Philadelphia Eagles. That’s why the NFL franchise and city responded favorably to Jackson’s suggestion soon after his introduction as DSU coach that the MEAC rivals should play at Lincoln Financial Field.

They will do that Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. in a game aimed at drawing spectators well beyond each school’s fan base. It will also be on national TV, airing on ESPNU.

Despite all that hype, it will be a business trip for Delaware State.
