JAY, Vt. (WCAX) - Snowflakes are flying on Jay Peak this weekend as the resort prepares for opening day just weeks away.
Resort officials say they plan to make snow this weekend to start priming the mountain.
Right now, they say they expect to open the usual Friday after Thanksgiving, though an early snowstorm could bump that up.
Their snowmaking comes after weeks of drought that left their system low on water.
Officials say recent rain refilled their roughly 13 million-gallon snowmaking pond.
Now, they can put their new snowmaking equipment to use.
“We’ve needed more coverage in more places. We’ve added more fixed guns so that our team doesn’t have to bring guns out every time that we want to make snow in a particular area. Now we can just automate the entire thing,” said Steve Wrig
