HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- Gov. Ned Lamont and state officials will gather Wednesday morning at the Capitol building in Hartford to discuss drug misuse prevention.

Lamont and The Governor's Prevention Partnership are expected to announce the launch of a new initiative that will distribute 50,000 drug-deactivation pouches statewide.

Health officials said drug misuse is a major public health challenge. It claims tens of thousands of lives every year, and state leaders are finding ways to crack down on it.

These pouches are designed to help families safely dispose of unused medications at home. This is part of an effort to reduce drug misuse and protect the environment.
