JACKSON, Mich. (WILX) - The Jackson City Council passed new resolutions Tuesday night addressing downtown parking.
Currently, downtown Jackson offers meterless parking, but maintenance costs have continued to rise.
Last summer, the city considered installing parking meters in order to help pay for infrastructure improvements, but faced strong opposition from downtown business owners, who argued that meters would discourage visitors.
Instead, property owners will continue paying an annual fee, while the city increases parking enforcement and encourages drivers to purchase parking permits.
Under the new plan, businesses and property owners in the downtown area will pay a flat $700 annual fee.
