GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - Alachua County officials are hosting two literacy meetings this week to ask for community input on how to improve literacy rates throughout the area.

Organizers say the goal is to hear what issues people may have with getting access to literacy programs and how to improve literacy for everyone to lead to a better economy and community.

“Literacy is a community issue and we know that it is closely tied to our economic development, our ability to thrive our livability as a community. When people can function with reading and writing in a way that contributes to their personal life and their ability to work, that makes a stronger community” Theresa Beachy, Organizational strategist for the Center for Nonprofit Excellence, said.
