MARION OAKS, Fla. (WCJB) - A 76-year-old man from Ocala is dead, and a 45-year-old man from Ocala is in the hospital after a hit and run crash near Marion Oaks Tuesday evening.

According to Florida Highway Patrol troopers, a vehicle was parked on the grass shoulder of Southwest 27th Circle at around 7:30 p.m. The two men were conducting maintenance on a disabled dump truck that was also parked on the grass shoulder.

The driver of an SUV was travelling south on Southwest 27th Circle when the driver drove off the road and hit the two men.

Troopers say he driver of the SUV initially pulled over but then fled the scene, going south on Southwest 27th Circle and turning right onto Southwest 137th Loop.
