PARIS, Arkansas — With SNAP benefits nearing a cutoff amid the federal government shutdown, putting food aid at risk for millions across the country, some good Samaritans are working to make sure neighbors don't go hungry.
From Ozark to Paris, some moms in the Natural State are ensuring that everyone has a seat at the dinner table.
Whitney Santana is a single mom from Ozark who works two jobs. In light of SNAP benefits running out soon, she wants to give back.
"It's an open table, that's the name of the project is Ozarks Open Table," Santana said.
Across the river in Paris, Taelor Ford is also setting the table.
"I thought it was going to be like, 20 people in my house, but now it's 500 people," Ford said.
Both moms told 5NEWS that in their communities, people look after each other.
