WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) - The Wichita City Council heard proposals on Tuesday for increases to next year's water and sewer bills.

Gary Janzen, department director of Public Works and Utilities, is recommending an increase of $3.67 a month or option No. 1, for a low-volume customer, which is most of Wichita. Early projects show that in 2027, the bill would increase by $4.33 a month.

Janzen said Derby and Valley Center are working on their own water treatment facilities, which are expected to be operational by 2027, and that the City of Wichita will lose $2.5 million from that.
