LUMBERTON — A $748,000 grant from the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality will allow the City of Lumberton to proceed with replacing a culvert underneath a railroad track on Linkhaw Road, improving stormwater drainage in the area just south and east of Lumberton High School.
The total project cost will be approximately $1.1 million. The new grant funding adds to a $250,000 grant award secured in recent months from the Golden LEAF Foundation, while the city will also be responsible for a $130,650 match on the DEQ grant funding.
The grant funding comes as part of a broader set of grants totaling $6 million, announced by Gov. Josh Stein earlier this month, to reduce flood risks across North Carolina.
