TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - Tucson Fire officials are reminding parents and children to prioritize safety when selecting Halloween costumes, emphasizing the importance of visibility and proper fit to prevent accidents during trick-or-treating.
Assistant Chief Barrett Baker said dark costumes pose visibility risks during nighttime trick-or-treating. He demonstrated how adding glow sticks and reflective tape can make children more visible to drivers.
Baker stressed costumes should allow for clear vision and easy movement. When masks are necessary, they should have proper eyeholes for clear vision. Face paint provides better peripheral vision compared to masks, which can obstruct sight.
