Jeff Bridges is flattered that Leonardo DiCaprio took inspiration from his iconic character The Dude for his performance in One Battle After Another. In Paul Thomas Anderson's action thriller, the Titanic actor plays a dishevelled and often stoned ex-revolutionary who must reunite with his former conspirators to rescue his daughter. During the film's press tour in September, DiCaprio revealed that he looked to Jeff Bridges' stoner character in the 1998 cult classic The Big Lebowski for inspiration. The comments were brought to Bridges' attention in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, and he was flattered by the news. "That's a wonderful thing to hear. I haven't heard any interviews from him, but, gosh, I saw that movie - what a great movie, my gosh! " he enthused. "And the performances were all so wonderful. Leo just kicked a*s, and everyone - Sean (Penn), the whole cast - it was just a wonderful experience." The Tron actor noted that he can see the parallels between The Dude and DiCaprio's character Bob Ferguson. "Both of those guys, you look at 'em with a certain lens, and they look like lazy sons of b**ches," he explained. "They don't really have anything to really give to the world or anything. But on closer examination, you see they're kind of deeper than that, or their spirits run deeper than that. So I like the comparison." During a red carpet interview with Variety, the Inception actor shared that he liked playing "a dude that sits home and smokes pot all the time" and someone who becomes a bumbling oaf when unwittingly thrust into the action. "It was great to have that ease of incorporating that into the character, not having to jump and land the stunt, so to speak," he said last month. "It's a series of failures. I guess I took a lot of inspiration from The Dude." One Battle After Another was recently nominated for six Gotham Awards, including Best Feature, Best Director and performance nods for DiCaprio's co-stars Teyana Taylor, Benicio del Toro and Chase Infiniti.
