Regulator Ofcom has announced planned measures to "significantly" increase protections for mobile phone users from text message scams.

Text scamming has become frustratingly common, with Brits receiving bogus messages that try to trick people into giving out their personal information, including bank account details.

In fact, half of UK mobile users (50 per cent) said they received a suspicious message between November 2024 and February 2025 by text or iMessage.

In the year to April 2025 alone, an estimated 100 million suspicious messages were reported to mobile operators through the 7726 service.

To help stop the scourge of scam artists, Ofcom offered the following advice:
