MACON, Ga. — Halloween is just around the corner , and before the costumes come out and the candy buckets fill up, officials are reminding those who are trick-or-treating about important safety precautions.

According to the Bibb County Sheriff's Office said in a social media post, they say you should wear a costume that can be seen by others, avoid costumes that could become a tripping hazard and make sure eye holes in masks are easy to see out of.

Flashlights, glowsticks and reflective tape on costumes are also helpful in staying safe, the sheriff's office said.

For drivers, the sheriff's office is encouraging them to slow down and be extra cautious in residential areas.
