Alberta Health Services (AHS) says the Fort Macleod Health Centre emergency department will be temporarily closed due to an unexpected shortage of clinical staff.

The department is scheduled to reopen Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. to resume 24-hour service. During the closure, AHS says nursing staff will remain on-site to provide care to long-term care residents.

The health authority is reportedly working to ensure local residents continue to have access to the care they need. AHS advises that residents experiencing a medical emergency should call 911. Emergency calls will be redirected to Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge, approximately 49 kilometres away.

Other nearby emergency services are available at: • Pincher Creek Health Centre • Cardston Health Centre • Claresholm
