BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), along with 14 Republican senators, has officially nominated Charlie Kirk for inclusion in the prestigious National Garden of American Heroes. The sculpture garden is slated to be open in July 2026, coinciding with the 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
Proposed by President Trump in his first term, this sculpture garden is designed to honor 250 “great figures of America’s history.” Just recently, $40 million was allocated to the Department of the Interior for the garden with the passage of the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act.” The proposed garden would be erected in South Dakota near Mount Rushmore on privately donated land.
Kirk, Turning Point USA founder and conservative activist, was assassinated in Orem,
