IBERVILLE, La. (WAFB) - The Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a scam involving fake emails claiming federal arrest warrants have been issued.
The fraudulent messages include names of sheriff’s office employees to appear legitimate, officials said. The emails are followed by phone calls demanding payment. The emails and calls appear to be coming from the Sheriff’s office, but they are not.
Sheriff’s office officials said they do not issue or execute federal warrants and do not send warrant notifications by email. Legitimate agencies never request fines or fees over the phone to clear warrants.
How to protect yourself
Residents who receive suspicious messages should not provide personal or financial information such as Social Security numbers or bank details. O
