BELOIT, Wis. — The City of Beloit has found its next police chief.
The Beloit Police and Fire Commission announced they intend to choose Commander Schonella Stewart as the next City of Beloit Police Chief. A conditional offer was extended to Stewart, and she accepted it.
It was said that Stewart passed two interviews with the Beloit PFC and excelled in assessments conducted by police chiefs from other communities, in a community forum, and in interviews with city leaders and department staff.
Stewart comes from Oak Park, Illinois, where she served in law enforcement for 19 years. She started as a police officer and rose through the ranks to become investigations commander, the role she is leaving to join Beloit's department.
