SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - The Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources has given an update regarding the fish kill that happened in Split Rock Creek in 2024.

In August of 2024, a tanker of sugar water combined with microbes was released in an area that ran into Split Rock Creek.

According to the farmer, the sugar water is a byproduct of an Iowa ethanol plant intended to be sprayed on crops.

The dead fish began at the alleged dumping site north of Corson and downstream into the Brandon city limits.

On Wednesday, October 29, 2025, the DANR announced that they have completed the investigation into the incident and that the following actions have been taken since then:
