WEST MEMPHIS — Last Thursday’s council meeting seemed routine until Mayor Marco McClendon turned the final minutes into a personal address on investigations and rumors circulating in the community. Holding up a letter, McClendon directly tackled concerns from fellow council members and residents.

“Y’all see this letter right here? Your mayor has been investigated by the Arkansas attorney because of lies that people in the community say, some told by certain council members on this board with me, and it hurt,” McClendon said, his voice rising with frustration. “I sit here every day and fight like hell for the city of West Memphis. They said that a copy of ordinances authorizing incarcerated workers to be working in my personal dwellings. Pictures were sent to many of you on the council.”
