COOK COUNTY, Ill. — U.S. House Democratic candidate Kat Abughazaleh has been charged in a federal indictment along with five others related to the Broadview ICE facility.
Abughazaleh is facing a federal charge of to impede a U.S. law enforcement officer following protesting at the ICE facility in Broadview on Sept. 26.
Abughazaleh, Michael Rabbitt, Andre Martin, Catherine Sharp, Brian Straw and Joselyn Walsh are accused by federal authorities of surrounding an ICE agent's vehicle and damaging the vehicle.
Federal prosecutors claim "PIG" was etched into the vehicle.
She is also accused of bracing her body against the vehicle to hinder it.
Abughazaleh, 26 and a former journalist, announced a campaign in March for Illinois' 9th district which has long been held by Jan Schakowsky. Schakow
