Nearly 175,000 vehicles manufactured by the Ford Motor Company have been recalled due to a defect with the moonroof wind deflector.

The recall, which was reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Friday, Oct. 24, cited an increased risk of a crash or road hazard.

"The moonroof wind deflector clips may be inadequately attached to the moonroof frame, which can result in the wind deflector detaching from the vehicle," reads the recall notice.

What vehicles are potentially impacted by the recall?

According to the recall notice posted by the NHTSA, 174,853 units are potentially affected, including vehicles in the follow models and model years:

  • 2021-2023 Ford F-150
  • 2022 Ford F-250 SD
  • 2022 Ford F-350 SD
  • 2022 Ford F-450 SD
  • 2021-2022 Ford Expedition
  • 2021-2022 Lincoln Navigator

Per the recall report, owners may notice an "increase in wind or rattle noises while the moonroof is open" or may spot the wind deflector detaching from the vehicle.

What should consumers do?

Impacted car owners can get their wind deflectors inspected and repaired for free.

Customers can also contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332.

Letters notifying customers of the recall will be mailed on Nov. 3, according to the NHTSA.
