LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The Fair Food Network (FFN) is expanding its Double Up Food Bucks Program in Michigan due to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) halting SNAP benefits for November amid the ongoing government shutdown.
SNAP, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, is the largest food assistance program in the nation, helping low-income individuals. Nearly 13% of Michigan households, or 1.4 million people, rely on SNAP assistance.
The Double Up Food Bucks is an assistance program that matches fruit and vegetable purchases up to $20 per day in 25 states.
FFN plans to expand access to the program by: • Removing earning expirations, which are usually capped at 90 days. Shoppers can now use their benefits whenever they are needed. • Removing the daily earning
