PEORIA, Ill. – A man has been found guilty in connection to the shooting death of a teenager in South Peoria four years ago.

The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says 24-year-old Marvin Alexander was found guilty on Wednesday of First Degree Murder after a three-day trial.

Alexander was convicted in the death of 19-year-old De’Monyae Phelps the evening of July 20th, 2021.

Phelps was found slumped over the center console in a car still running on the side of the road that evening in the area of Shelley and Kettelle, and pronounced dead at the scene.

The state’s attorney’s office says three witnesses testified that a group of friends gathered to play basketball, and saw Alexander shoot Phelps after a confrontation about $70 that Alexander believed Phelps took from him.
