PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - A Peoria man was found guilty Wednesday in connection with a deadly shooting over a $70 dispute, according to the Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Authorities said 24-year-old Marvin Alexander was found guilty of first-degree murder Wednesday in connection with the shooting death of 19-year-old De’Monyae Phelps.
Peoria Police said they were called to South Shelley Street late on July 20, 2021, for shots fired. When officers arrived, they found a car still running on the side of the road, and Phelps slumped over the center console after being shot multiple times.
The State’s Attorney said that during the three-day trial, three witnesses testified that a group of friends had gathered on Shelley Street that night after playing basketball at a nearby park.
