A Newfoundland composer has produced a new album that sets Newfoundland stories, folklore and dialects to contemporary classical music.
Jason Noble produced One Foot in the Past with guitarist Steve Cowan.
Noble says the project has been 10 years in the making.
The duo got the idea while living in Montreal and hearing how proud people in Quebec are about their dialects and speech patterns.
Noble says they wanted to do something to celebrate the different dialects in this province.
In 2015 they embarked on a tour of the province, collecting 18 hours of interviews from various speech families, which turned into the basis of the pieces for the album.
He says the pieces touch on many different themes, such as ghost and fairy stories, dancing at parties, the battle of Beaumont Hamel, and
