On Sunday, February 8, 2004, the people of Perth awoke to another beautiful summer’s day.

The air was thick and steamy as a storm brewed, and down on the sand at Cottesloe, The Beach Boys were preparing to perform that evening, joined by Perth’s own Australian Idol star Cosima De Vito.

That same morning, readers of The Sunday Times found something new inside their paper — a 48-page magazine titled STM.
