Montrealers should brace for weeks of disrupted commutes after Quebec’s labour tribunal gave the city’s transit maintenance workers the go ahead Wednesday to strike through most of November, including on municipal election day this Sunday.

The ruling means that, unless a deal is struck, buses and métro trains will run only during limited rush-hour windows next month.

It marks an escalation in the STM’s labour dispute. In September, a two-week strike saw 2,400 maintenance workers walk out for six days. Another in June lasted nine days, including three with no service outside rush hour.
