ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Hurricane Melissa has torn through Jamaica as a Category 5 storm which is the strongest level on the hurricane scale and the strongest the island has ever seen. Locals from the Capital Region are stuck in Jamaica after visiting and local Jamaicans are worried for their loved ones back home.
Hurricane Melissa has been developing for nearly two weeks. The storm began on October 16th and has officially made landfall in Jamaica on Wednesday. It then crossed into eastern Cuba as a major hurricane. After Cuba, it is expected to travel toward the southeastern Bahamas.
