BOSTON (WPRI) — The Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA) and three other shelters across the state will be waiving adoption fees for a number of cats this upcoming weekend.
The adoptathon, dubbed "Spirit Cat Halloween," will take place on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1.
The MSPCA explained that fees will be waived specifically for cats "that tend to stay in the shelters longer," such as older felines and those with specific behavioral or medical needs.
"We've been taking in more surrenders this year, so our capacity is tight," MSPCA's Mike Keiley said, adding that the MSPCA's cat intake is up more than 20% over last year.
The adoptathon was organized by the Massachusetts Animal Shelter Support coalition.
