The new Powerhouse Parramatta museum is now just a year away from opening after years of construction and controversy.

Building work on five of the seven exhibition spaces has now been completed at the new Powerhouse Parramatta site .

It marks a major milestone in a project mired in controversy since it was initially announced the museum’s original site at Ultimo would be permanently closed and moved west.

While the Parramatta site will become NSW’s largest museum space, the Ultimo site is now also undergoing building work as part of a revitalisation process so both sites can operate in conjunction.

At Parramatta, exhibition installations will now begin to be fitted in finished sections as the final construction phases are completed in time for the grand opening in late 2026.
