A federal grand jury indicted Luigi Mangione on a federal murder charge Thursday.
This marks a major step for prosecutors as they seek the death penalty in his case.
They are calling the killing of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson a “pre-meditated, cold-blooded assassination.”
Mangione’s lawyers argue U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi’s request to seek the death penalty corrupted the grand jury and denied Mangione of his constitutional right to due process.
Attorney Eric Richman joined “The Rush Hour” on Friday to talk about the indictment.
Richman also spoke about the Supreme Court’s plan to hear arguments on President Donald Trump’s pending restrictions on birthright citizenship and the latest on the Maryland man who was wrongfully deported to El Salvador.
