SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — One might say she lived a full life. A woman from Shreveport is being honored following her death at age 110. Elvira Helaire-Davis passed away on Monday, October 27, surrounded by her family. She was born in 1915 at Oakland Plantation near Natchitoches during World War I. Elvira was one of eight children of Felix Helaire and Martha Hamilton, both of whom were sharecroppers.

According to the Caddo Parish Coroner's office, during her lifetime, Davis experienced numerous significant historical events, including World War I, the Spanish flu epidemic, the Great Depression, World War II, the Korean War, the Civil Rights Era, the assassination of President Kennedy, the landing of astronauts on the moon, the September 11 attacks, and the Covid-19 outbreak.
