LOS ANGELES - Toronto Blue Jays slugger George Springer's status remained uncertain a few hours before the start of Game 5 of the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Springer performed running drills and took some swings at Dodger Stadium earlier in the day. He hasn't played since injuring his right side while fouling off a pitch in Game 3.
"He hit in the cage. Looked good," Blue Jays skipper John Schneider said Wednesday in a pre-game media availability.
The Blue Jays waited to see how Springer was feeling in the mid-afternoon (local time) before releasing their starting lineup. At a minimum, Springer was expected to be available to come off the bench in a pinch-hitting role.
