MARSHALL, Texas (KTAL/KMSS) — When the staff at the Marshall Pet Adoption Center saw a dog with a brown spot on its head, a pop culture reference came to mind. Little did they know, he would embody the loyalty of the character he is named after.

Appa from Avatar: The Last Airbender begins to trust the main character soon after meeting and becomes a loyal companion. Our Appa is as faithful as the sky bison he is named after.

Two other dogs, also named after characters on the show — Toph (now named Tophee) and Yui — came in with Appa. The three were malnourished and incredibly close.

No one knows whether they are siblings or just friends, but they are all receiving the care they need, even if it gets hard to tell.
