EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEVV) — With the federal shutdown continuing and SNAP benefits set to end on November 1, food pantries across the Tri-State are seeing increased demand.
The Young and Established food drive in Evansville is experiencing its largest turnout yet, with organizers noting that more families are seeking assistance.
"It's a bigger crowd, you know, because we're in times of need—government shutdown, there's no SNAP benefits coming for next month and I don't know how anybody is going to live," said Lori Todd, who has been attending the food drive for a year and a half.
Volunteers estimated that more than 150 families lined up for food donations at the drive organized weekly by Young and Established's Courtney Johnson.
