TAMPA, Fla. (WWSB) - The national championship game in college football is coming to Tampa for the first time since 2017.

Raymond James Stadium, The venue that is normally the home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and USF Bulls football program, is set to welcome a whole audience for college football’s biggest stage in 2029.

The place known as “Ray Jay” is no stranger to hosting and participating in the college football postseason. The Reliaquest Bowl happen there every season.

Pro Football Hall of Famer and Tampa Bay Bucs legend, Derrick Brooks, says he’s excited about what this means for the city.

“It allows us to serve our community in a whole different footrpint, but yet it leaves a lasting legacy in our city that goes beyond 2029,” Brooks said.
