HARRISBURG, Pa. — With federal food assistance benefits set to expire this weekend, Pennsylvania officials are calling on the Trump administration to take action.
This week, the Shapiro administration announced it would join 24 other states in suing the federal government over the suspension of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). The lawsuit comes after the USDA decided not to spend $5 billion in emergency funds to keep program going through the government shutdown.
Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis said the decision would cause around 2 million Pennsylvanians to lose their SNAP benefits on Nov. 1.
