JACKSON COUNTY, Mo. —

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office has identified a 44-year-old inmate who died after being taken to a hospital following a medical emergency at the county jail earlier this month.

The inmate has been identified as Billy Joe Hercules of Independence, Missouri, according to an update released by the sheriff’s office on Wednesday. Advertisement

Hercules was transported from the Jackson County Detention Center on October 19 after experiencing a medical emergency.

The sheriff’s office said he later died at a local hospital.

Preliminary findings indicate no physical interaction occurred between Hercules and corrections officers before his death, the sheriff’s office said.
