A book that shines light on the underbelly of Kelowna has been long-listed for the Giller Prize, and also added to CBC’s Fall Reading List.
The book is called “Still” and it was written by local author Joanna Cockerline. The story focuses on a street woman named Kayla who’s searching for her friend Little Zoe, a sex worker who’s missing.
Readers will be introduced to a vibrant and diverse community of street people, and what it takes for them to survive life on the streets amid an opioid crisis.
Kayla’s dark backstory gets unraveled as she tries to find Little Zoe. Along the way she befriends an outreach worker – whose life may look picture-picture perfect – but will turn out to struggle with lots of her own issues as well. And while the story focuses primarily around characters who are
