LONG ISLAND CITY, Queens (PIX11) -- Major changes to two parts of the city got approved on Wednesday-- one is a massive landmarked building, the other is the rezoning of dozens of city blocks.

Both will result in noticeable changes to their neighborhoods, in geographically different areas of the city's five boroughs.

Late in the business day on Wednesday evening, the full New York City Council voted to approve a plan to redevelop the Kingsbridge. The brick castle-like structure that takes up a full city block in the north central Bronx has sat empty for decades. The plan approved on Wednesday will redevelop the armory into an entertainment venue with sports fields, light industrial manufacturing, and 450 units of housing.
