U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California says he is not going anywhere.

Bill Essayli told Politico on Wednesday that he will remain in his post despite a federal judge ruling that he has been serving in the role illegally.

The backstory: President Donald Trump appointed Essayli to be the new attorney for the Los Angeles area in April. • Essayli previously served in the California Assembly from 2022 to this year.

Driving the news: U.S. District Judge Michael Seabright ruled on Tuesday that Essayli should have left his post by the end of July because of a 120-day federal limit for temporary appointments. • Attorney General Pam Bondi had already extended Essayli’s tenure into 2026.
